Top 3 Ways CrossFit Masters Can Improve This Year For The CrossFit Games

Plan accordingly

Too often athletes jump into programs without truly understanding what they need and what their priorities are. CrossFit Masters athletes need to really break down the last year of training and establish where they did really well, and where they fell short. Once they understand this, they can properly plan around their main priorities and get on the proper track. Athletes usually don’t do a deep dive into fatigue factors and “shortcomings.” This often leads to following programs that are not right for them based on where they are. The proper program will meet the athlete where they are and not the other way around.

Reassess the non-negotiables

Before athletes jump into programs, they need to first make sure the pillars of training are dialed in. At the start of any training season, CrossFit Masters athletes should assess their nutrition and make sure they are taking in enough foods and the right foods for them. They need to assess their sleep, and see where it fell off over the past training block and why. They need to put emphasis on movement and movement quality for better energy preservation and less chance for injury. And lastly, they need to evaluate their mindset.

Line up your support crew

This journey is not easy, and balancing training, work, family, and leisure time is something that can often seem daunting. CrossFit Masters athletes need to list out their goals and talk to their loved ones about what they are. The more support they have from those who they care for and care for them, the better they will be able to stay on track due to others holding them accountable towards their goals.
