How Does Online Crossfit Coaching Work?

Over the span of the past year, we have seen a big switch to online coaching in the fitness industry. Within this space, there are two main forms of online coaching. The first type of online CrossFit coaching is with a group template, which many companies offer. This form of coaching is the most cost effective, and has the lowest barrier to entry. With this type of coaching, you typically will join an online community via a community page where a group (anywhere from 10 to 100,000+) will be following the same program. The downfall to this program is that the programming and coaching is not directed to you personally. So, you will be part of a group, but if you are looking for specific feedback and attention, you will not receive that here. The second form of online CrossFit coaching is within an individualized track. This type of coaching is where you will be assigned a coach to work one on one with and they will create a program for you that is designed around you as a person/athlete and what your specific goals are.

Who Is Online CrossFit Coaching For?

Online programming is for everyone, to an extent. I always look to guide people into individualized programming, which is ideal for anyone including someone who has never worked out before or the most experienced athlete. An individualized track will have a program created just for you based on what you can & should do. Following a template can get tricky for beginners as these programs are usually designed around what a higher level person or athlete is doing or has done and doesn’t take into account individual differences or abilities.

When you are getting online coaching, you should be looking for some specific qualities in your coach. These qualities are the following:

  • Clear and consistent communication

  • Understanding and an application of proper assessments

  • The usage of the right testing

  • Attention to the pillars of fitness

  • A good understanding of volume and intensity

  • The ability to take fatigue and genetic differences into account

  • Provides timely and adequate check ups and check ins (you can find a more detailed e-book of this at www.conquerathlete.com - scroll down to “7 Mistakes Athletes Make When Choosing a Coach”).

At Conquer Athlete, we pride ourselves in our ability to connect with our athletes!  You can expect to hear from your coach each day. Our coaches understand the principles of strength and conditioning and they know how to apply these principles in a way to drive the results that you want. Regardless, you can expect the coaches to connect with each person no matter the track that the individual takes (individualized or template).  So, check us out at www.conquerathlete.com.
