How to Train Post-CrossFit

Written by Conquer Athlete Coach Jason Leydon

CrossFit is an intense and effective training regimen. Many individuals who have dedicated themselves to CrossFit wonder what to do next once they feel they've achieved their goals or are ready for a change. In this blog post, we'll explore the various options for transitioning your training once you're done with CrossFit.

Evaluate Your Goals

Before you transition away from CrossFit, it's essential to evaluate your fitness goals. Consider what you've achieved through CrossFit and what you want to achieve next. Are you looking to maintain your current level of fitness, focus on specific goals like building muscle or improving endurance, or simply trying something new? Your goals will guide your transition.

Train to provide value to your life

Chances are when you transition out of CrossFit you do so because your body can’t handle the training anymore, or you are looking for something that allows you to not feel so tired in a manner that you can still provide value to other areas of your life.  So, after you have evaluated your goals, the next step is to understand where you are in your life and what type of training will provide you value and longevity with the other areas that are important to you.

Mix it Up

Variety is the spice of life, and it can also keep your fitness routine fresh and exciting. Instead of committing to one specific program, mix different training modalities throughout the week. This can help prevent burnout and plateaus while keeping you engaged and motivated.

Set New Goals

Once you've transitioned to a new training program, set clear and achievable goals. Having specific objectives will give you direction and motivation to stay committed to your new fitness routine. Whether it's hitting a certain weightlifting PR, running a faster mile, goals will keep you focused.

Stay Connected

One of the great aspects of CrossFit is the community it fosters. Even if you transition to a different training program, stay connected with your training friends and have them share in your new transition.  You may even find another community as well.

Transitioning your training after completing CrossFit can be an exciting and fulfilling process. By evaluating your goals, understanding where you are in life, mixing up your routine, setting new goals, and staying connected with your fitness community, you can continue to progress and challenge yourself on your fitness journey. Remember that the most important thing is to find a training regimen that you enjoy and that aligns with your current life objectives.
